Tiny family space garden design in Berkhamstead

 Garden before construction

The owners of an attractive, end-of-terrace family house couldn’t sell it because of the most uninviting, over-looked garden. They wanted to make a big difference with a small budget in order to make a successful sale. Priorities were:- privacy, a child-friendly space to play, an outdoor eating area, easy maintenance planting and somewhere to hide the bins.

Two levels of decking were laid to hide the ugly old paving and create a softer surface for the clients’ toddler. The design of the dining deck was turned on an angle to make the space seem wider and enclosed with simply planted raised beds. It was lit at night with inlaid LED lights.

Plan of design proposal

Existing fencing was strengthened and painted a warm cream to match the blonde timber of the privacy trellis erected above it.

A tall timber arch and trellis masked the bin area and balanced the height of the neighbour’s garage and workshop.

Two years on, another baby, and they no longer want to move!

"Thank you for your help in transforming our garden. We love it! The plants look amazing too."
